At The Prospects Trust we are keen to reduce our Carbon Foot Print and we have signed up with Terracycle and Recycle 4 Charity to help in the fight against climate change.

On the 18th March it is Global Recycling Day, which is a great initiative to get people thinking GREEN, however you don’t need a specific day to do your bit. The smallest changes can make the biggest difference, so if you have a pile of empty crisp packets or some old toothbrushes/toothpaste tubes then come along to Snakehall Farm and we will take them off your hands. We have recycling stations so you can recycle crisp packets, toothpaste and toothbrushes and also your empty ink cartridges. By doing this you will not only help the planet but also support our charity.
You could also pay a visit to our eco- friendly shop Prospects Unwrapped in the market town of Ely, where we promote a plastic free ethos. You can get your store cupboard essentials from our refill larder or just pop in to enjoy a cuppa and a cake.

Volunteering with The Prospects Trust

We LOVE free help, willingly given and paid back in smiles. Over the 30 years of The Prospects Trust we have received 1000’s of hours of volunteer support, from our Trustee Board to our regular volunteers on Snakehall Farm we couldn’t grow without them. In 2020 we are looking to recruit more volunteers to help us develop our charitable enterprise.

On Monday 10th March from 2:30 to 4:00 pm we will be hosting a drop-in session for prospective volunteers at our new social enterprise, Prospects Trust Unwrapped in Ely (Lynn Road, Ely, CB7 4EG). Meet some of the team, look at the wide range of volunteering opportunities we have or just come to find out more about The Prospects Trust.

The variety of volunteering is endless and the returns boundless. To name some opportunities, we are looking for help in the following areas:

Co-worker Companions – at Snakehall Farm or within the Unwrapped Shop – providing a buddy to help with daily tasks.

Guest Blogger – we are looking for some creative types to help produce perfect copy for our newsletters, social media and website. Perhaps you like doing product reviews or telling a story in words or pictures. Join our creative volunteers to tell the story of Unwrapped

Community Fundraisers & Prospects Trust Ambassadors – with a fundraising target of £50K per year, our charity needs people who can spread the word, run a raffle or run a marathon. Help put the FUN into our Fundraising and work with our Development Manager to raise the £s this year.

Corporate Social Responsibility Giving Back Days – with 18 acres at our disposal we can offer a real difference to a business away day. Ditch the raft building team building sessions and get digging at Snakehall Farm.

If you are faced with a mountain of washing up after your Christmas feast you too will know just how we all feel at Snakehall Farm after all of our Co-workers have started their day with a vital cuppa, recharged their batteries with a warm winter lunch and finished their day with just one more tea. On top of the mountain of dishes we also have 100s of jars to sterilise for our Mamma Julie’s preserves. This daily task is usually aided with our commercial dishwasher which speeds through the washing and makes our sterilising a whizz. Unfortunately our repairman (who comes quite regularly) has told us we have worn out the dishwasher from too much work! We all know the feeling right? We are now hoping our 2020 season can be sprung into life with a no leak/no leek commercial grade dishwasher and with your help we can.

The Snakehall Song 2019

The Prospects Trust’s Co-workers and support staff came together, bringing with them their dulcet tones and awe-inspiring personalities, to sing The Snakehall Song, penned by Snakehall Farm’s very own singer-songwriter Adam Vaughan.  They practiced daily in preparation for a live performance at the 30th Anniversary Farm Open Day. The impact the song had on the audience, resulted in shouts for an encore and left our co-workers and staff elated.  Now Prospects Trust wants their Snakehall Song to go viral!

With each daily farm rehearsal, the co-workers’ (people with additional needs) confidence grew and many individuals, who were nervous about performing in front of a large crowd, pulled it off on the big day and overcame their stage fright.  The Snakehall Song is now captured in film and ready to go live. The Snakehall Song has been a fun and inclusive way to showcase the many different people who are part of an exemplary Cambridgeshire care farm & social enterprise that has been “growing differently” since 1989.

Adam, Support Worker and the farm’s music maestro said “it has been a pleasure and a delight writing a song with the Co-workers of Snakehall Farm.  It was a humbling experience helping Co-workers overcome their fears around singing and performing, seeing them learn the words and actions and creating our first musical masterpiece to celebrate 30 years of growing (and now singing) of The Prospects Trust.”

Hannah, Deputy Manager said “in the seven years I have worked here I have never come across anything that has unified the Co-workers, staff and supporters of the farm and brought as much joy as the Snakehall Song.  I am ready to perform it in front of Simon Cowell but they won’t let me leave Snakehall.”

The Snakehall Song project was funded by the DOSOCO Foundation, a local charitable foundation that supports music therapy, music access, music education and the innovative use of sound and music for social good.  The whole process was captured by the Snakehall Farm team on an iPad funded by The Devil’s Dyke Morris Men. These small grants and donations have helped make magic happen.

Development Manager Maz said “we have a great desire to make this song go bigger than the Sausage Roll Song last Christmas.  We are also raising funds for our 30th Anniversary year and are asking for people who love our song to donate to our £30K for 30 Years appeal, donations can be made online at: localgiving.org/charity/prospectstrustatsnakehallfarm/project/SnakehallSong
